These are not the desserts for you if you prefer cakey brownies. In fact, these brownies are thick, moist, and gooey throughout—a really indulgent treat for both chocolate and pecan pie fans. These rich, flavorful brownies are made by baking a sheet of thick, chocolatey brownies, then topping it with a layer of pecan pie filling that has been lightly bourbon-infused. Squares of deep chocolate, crunchy pecan, and sticky pecan pie filling are created by fusing the two layers together.

Ingredients For Brownie Batter

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

Ingredients For Pecan Pie Topping

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon bourbon (optional)
  • 3 cups chopped pecans

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Brownie

  1. Start by melting some butter in a saucepan until it’s completely melted and starting to splatter.
  2. Turn off the heat and immediately add your chocolate chips to the melted butter. If there are any leftover chocolate chips, put them in a separate bowl.
  3. Stir the chocolate chips in the butter with a wooden spoon or spatula to ensure they are coated with butter. Set it aside to cool.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the granulated sugar, light brown sugar, salt, vanilla, and four eggs. Mix until well combined.
  5. Check on the melted chocolate and give it a good stir to make it smooth.
  6. Add the melted chocolate to the sugar mixture and whisk until well combined.
  7. Sift in the flour and cocoa powder into the mixture. Whisk gently until all the dry ingredients are moistened.
  8. Transfer the batter to a prepared baking dish (9×13 inches) that has been greased with cooking spray and lined with parchment paper  to ensure that these things do not stick to the pan.
  9. Spread the batter evenly in the baking dish and bake at 325°F (165°C) for approximately 35 minutes, or until the brownies are set.

Step 2: While the brownies are baking, prepare the pecan pie filling

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together brown sugar, butter, vanilla, and salt. Stir in the pecans.
  2. If needed, crack an egg into a small bowl, whisk it, and then pour it into the mixture.
  3. Stir the pecans until they are fully coated with the filling mixture.
  4. Let the pecan mixture sit aside and clean up your workspace while waiting for the brownies to finish baking.

Step 3: Once the brownies have backed

  1. Pour the pecan pie filling over the top of the brownies.
  2. Return the baking dish to the oven and bake at 325°F (165°C) for about 25 minutes, or until the pecan pie filling is set.
  3. Remove the baking dish from the oven and let the brownies cool completely in the pan.
  4. Once cooled, invert the brownies onto a cutting board and slice them into squares or desired shapes.
  5. Serve the pecan pie brownies as they are or enjoy them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra decadent treat.
